music video

Introduction
In 1941 a jukebox which played video clips along with music was invented. This was called the Panoram Soundie. Hollywood introduces the genre of music centred films in 1956. In 1962, British television introduce a new form of music television such as TOTP. 1969, Easy Rider, features one of the first uses of rock music to accompany sequences in a dramatic film. In 1970, record producers find a way of promoting their artists by producing short promos which started to replace live performances of the artist on stage. In 1975, advanced video effects were brought into action in the video Bohemian Rhapsody. Closely followed by computer animation in 1979 in a video called The Day My Baby Gave Me A Surprise. In 1981, the first 24 hour music channel started.

Promotion of artists and directors
A promotion of an artist is when the artist name is shown in the video. An example of this is High School Never Ends, by Bowling For Soup. In this example the band’s name and BFS is shown in multiple locations in the set. For example, on the campervan, on the drums and on the backdrop. They do this because it promotes the band, gains them money and recognition. The promotion of a director is a similar aspect as the promotion of the artist however instead of the artist it’s the directors. An example of this is The JCB song. The directors name is shown at the end of the video, this gives them promotion and recognition because you don’t normally know who the directors are.

Producers strategies how and why are artists marketed differently.
An Independent artist tends to be advertised through YouTube, some examples of independent artists are Dave Giles, Emma Blackery, Bry, Luke Cutforth, Doddie Clark, Danny Gruff, Box of Light and Robbie Coles. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAmX7BAv4Z8v this is an example of a Dave Giles song). Most of these examples, mainly Emma Blackery, promote themselves by creating other videos such as vlogs. They also are contracted by other big brands such as Primark, Top Shop and next. A lot of them are also contracted with major makeup brands. A lot of them also collaboration in each other’s music videos and general videos to help promote each other.
Major labels are bigger artists who have record labels. Some examples of Major labels are Halestorm, Bowling For Soup, You Me At Six,  Falling in reverse, Linkin Park, Paramore and Bring me the Horizon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVYgoejO3ac
Extending artists and record labels income
Some artists have extra merchandise to help them extend their income budget. An example of this is Halestorm. Here’s to us, beer mug, artists will produce multiple merchandise products. This helps them earn more revenue. They also go on tours to help advertise themselves.

The extension of various media outlets
There are various media outlets such as YouTube, itunes, Playstore, 4Music, vevo and Vimeo. Outlets like Playstore and itunes once you have downloaded a music video you can watch them anywhere you want; however, you can’t with ones like YouTube because you need WIFI. However, with YouTube the video is free. With both YouTube and itunes though you can choose which song you want to watch however, with the music TV channels you cannot choose. On TV channels generally they only show pop music. If all these outlets did not have these music videos the artists and company would not have as much publication and earn as much money for them.

Synergistic marketing/links to promotion and income
Synergistic marketing is when a music video has a film within in it and the film has merchandise. This is an advantage to the target audience because when they see a product with there inspiration on they instantly want to buy the product. Some examples of this would be:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpvdAJYvofI
Another example is Decode by Paramore in this video there're are scenes from twilight.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvnkAtWcKYg

The conclusion
Why do you think music videos are so popular?
To conclude, music videos helps you imagine the story behind the song and have better understanding of it. Older videos help create memories and life experiences. This is important for people with a hearing impairment as it means they can lip read and get something out of the song.

reflective post

we have used multiple shots we have mainly used medium shots. However, have also used long shots and close ups. In the cove clinic take over day video we had a dolly shot which was following the children around along the sea creatures. In the ward 10 video, we also had a dolly shot which was the camera on the end of the bed filming from the child's angle whilst travelling through the hospital.

we have used a couple of different transitions. We have used the dissolve effect and some cut aways, which we have used on both videos. We have sued some titles for peoples names. We used blue background for them because the videos are based in a hospital which blue is a regular regular colour as it is the colour of their uniform.

The sound is in some parts is really good but when we filmed the interviews the sound could have been slightly more clearer because we had some troubles with the recording of the sound. We have used soem music in the background. The music we have used is catchy. I personally, didn't mind the music however because i have no heard it so many times it is become irritating.

We used quite a few props. The props we used ones which would and are used day to day. Therefore are realistic. We used props such as beds, plasters, cream, shoes and general equipment used in a hospital. We used both natural and unnatural lighting. However, we did not take any extra lighting.  I don't feel as though we need any.

Current practices

Current Practises in Corporate Video Productions Introduction In this assignment I am going to be researching different features in corporate videos such as copyright, privacy, def
amation, ethical, technologies and releases. Copyright When making a video you have to be aware of copyright for music. If you want to use music, then you have to be able to get artists permission or use copyright free music. You can’t have other companies, logos or names in the video due to the law of copyright. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw_B4ZMjrFo This is an example of how they used copyright free music. You can tell this by how basic and repetitive it is. In the description of the video it says “Copyright by results advertising”. Privacy You have to protect others privacy. You cannot put personal details of others on the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9SK052cF3c This video is an example of privacy because when interviewing people who already work for Apple they displayed their name on the screen however only shown their first name to protect them giving away private information. Defamation Defamation means that a person, company or pr
oduct is criticizing another company for example if they affected their business. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUOttPF4UTo This advert is for Surface Pro. They compare it to an Apple mac. They criticize Apple by saying that their product is better and use these quotes to compare them together. “This mac doesn’t quite compare. It’s slower, heavy and a bit square” “it’s lighter than air”. Fair use Using it correctly so that it doesn’t go against copy right laws. It allows you to use it in certain situations for example teaching by showing a video in a lesson or copying a couple of paragraphs from an article. Another time fair use applies is when quoting song lyrics or reviewing and/or commenting on a product for example a book or film. It also allows you to make a parody meaning for example a song parody you can use the music as long as you change the words and make sure the words don’t offend or criticise. s Ethical There are three different types of ethical issues, race, gender and religion. Race is based on where you come from and ethnic group which you fall under. In a corporate video you have to make sure to make it clear that all ethnical groups can participate in whatever you are advertising. You have to be able to do this without directly saying this. One way in which you can do this is by showing different people from different cultures using this product/working for the company that you are advertising. Secondly, don’t make it gender specific this also includes not singling out gay people. You could do this by showing neutral colours such as red or cream in video. Releases / materials (talent + location) To film a corporate video, I will legally need the following documentations. Firstly, I will need a release form. When I film all the people starring in the video I would have to give them this form to prove that I have permission to film them. Secondly, if I am filming with any specific prop which could be seen as dangerous I will need to inform the police and get their permission to be able to film this. An example is if I wanted to film someone shooting someone I would have to inform the police that I would be using it so that if anyone reports me they know why. Another type of release form in which I will need is the location one. This is to prove I have permission to film on the location in which I need. I would need the sight manager to do so. Technologies To create a corporate video, you need different types of equipment and technology for example you need camera to be able to film. There are many different types of camera in which you can use. An example is a Nikon D3200. This is a DSLR camera. This coast around about £350. Another example is a Canon 750D. These cost around about £500. Lastly if you are wanting to film more sporty or water based videos then you will need a camera like the GoPro. Which is about £50. Then you need a computer with an editing software on for example premier pro. You will also need a tripod to hold the camera when filming, light source for example a soft box or a ring light to get good lighting. You can also have a shotgun microphone to gather better sound and you can have this on a boom pole. You may also need a green screen.
